The Benediction album has the distinction of being the first album recorded on a computer. Suddenly we had the ability to get each note right as well as excellent editing capabilities.  As a raven_dove1result, along with perfectionist tendencies, albums ironically started to take a lot longer to get “right”.  Being so early to adopt the technology, I think the album suffers from pushing the computer to its limit; the instrumentation is the part that I’m least happy with this album.  On the other hand, I think the songs are some of Frozen Taco’s most sophisticated.  Indeed this is in the upper ranks of Frozen Taco’s most artistic albums.  It also follows the later album trends of being a consistent album.  This CD also features a bonus track “The Truth Inside” which was recorded in Charleston, South Carolina, in the summer of 1994, shortly after the original album was released.

Any discussion of the “Benediction” album has to begin with The Raven and the Dove.  Simply put, it is one of the top 5 FT songs of all time.  It is a vibrant, haunting melody, and it has a bridge that gave me goose bumps the first time I heard it.  The title track is also an excellent selection.  matt_t-ronThe lyrics are very uplifting; as the name suggests, I intended for it to be a musical benediction for the listener.  Occasionally, when I need inspiration, I will put on the headphones and play Benediction. The Truth Inside was actually produced after we released the album. We thought to include it on the next album, but that turned out to be “Illumination,” which tells a fable through its songs. The Truth Inside didn’t fit the theme, so for a long time, it was a song without an album, though we always thought it was a strong number. Finally, we decided to add it to “Benediction” as a bonus track.  It definitely deserves a home; there are several beautiful and creative motifs throughout.

Here’s the sheet music to a lot of the album.  Note that much of it was generated from MIDI notes and not corrected in the notation so you’ll frequently have chords misspelled, etc.  Also, some of the guitar chord notation is overly complex and don’t match the fingerings that were used.  This is just a limitation of the software that was used at the time to generate the sheet music:
